Lucie IPA Award - Hubris Greatest Hits; Drowning in Drought

Poor planning and lack of foresight has led to the environmental consequences felt, in increasing severity, in the Owens Valley. The railroad quit, the mines shut down, and Los Angeles took the only equity remaining from the lake; water. Efforts to stave off the power of the wind, the sand, and the changing weather seem futile. The man made drought has turned the lake shore into a sandy wasteland. A handful of reluctant survivors and old buildings are a veiled glimpse into the past. Horribly beautiful, laid bare beneath the sky, the town and its scars sit, quietly hopeful as the rain passes.
